Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Your go-to place for building functional communication in real life.

Here, we focus on helping children communicate in meaningful ways—through everyday routines, relationships, and real-life moments that actually matter.

The SLP Next Door was created for speech-language pathologists, educators, and caregivers who want practical, realistic ways to support communication—without the overwhelm.

Because communication isn’t one-size-fits-all… and it shouldn’t feel impossible to teach.

My name is Megan Peveto! I’m from a small town in Texas, married to the best man on the planet, and a mom to 2 amazing children. My life and work are deeply rooted in my faith, and I truly believe this calling to support children and families is part of a bigger purpose.

Life these days is full, a little chaotic, and centered around family—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

But more than anything, I’ve always loved working with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

When I started working in pediatric home health, I quickly realized something:
There wasn’t a lot of clear, practical information out there about functional communication in the early years.

So… I started creating it.

I dove into the research. I tested strategies in real homes with real families. And over time, I built approaches that actually worked—because they were rooted in everyday routines, real relationships, and what children actually need.

And I’m still learning, researching, and growing right alongside you.

Think of me as your SLP next door—here to help you make communication feel simple, doable, and real.

Why this matters to me

This isn’t just something I do—it’s something I feel deeply called to.

My gramma used to tell me,
“Babe—you’re going to do something big.”

Even when things felt uncertain. Even when I didn’t see it yet.

I lost her to cancer in 2017, just three months after I got married.
But I still hear her voice all the time.

And somewhere along the way… I realized this might be my “something big.”

Helping children communicate in meaningful ways.
Helping caregivers feel confident.
Helping professionals feel less alone in this work.
